I think I need a drink. Only I don’t drink. Gosh this is awkward.

Today is the birthday of a friend of mine.

And guess where we’re celebrating this evening?

You betcha!

A bar.

A fancy bar at that. The kind where you don’t know whether to wear jeans or a ball gown (my guess is somewhere in between).

Sounds like fun right? Right?

Now don’t get me wrong I love hanging out with my friends. The feeling is slightly conflicted though because I don’t reeeeaally like bars…. Or drinking for that matter, which kind of takes out the whole point of “going to a bar”, donit?

(FYI: in Austria drinking is legally allowed at the age of 16 and my friend is turning 17. So nothing illegal going on in this neck of the woods tongue )

Another slightly unfortunate matter is that the whole thing starts at 10 PM. Which in my book is late. Like really late. Half an hour before my bed time late. (Wow I don’t even want to know what went through your head just then…. In my defense I am a morning person! See I even have posts to prove it! (Embarrassingly many I should add, how do you guys put up with me…?))

Also I know they’ll try to get me to drink at least one drink and I’ll be all laughy and denialy and things will be a teeny tiny bit awkward when they’ll order something fancy like “Mojito on the rocks with an extra shot of gin and lime, but go easy on the tomato, would you?” (or whatever I don’t know. Like I said I have no experience in this field of expertise.) While I’ll probably be squeaking something along the lines of “One lemon soda please.”

You know what? NO.

These are my friends we’re talking about and I trust them. Sure they’ll tease me, I mean have you read this post? I’m a teasable person.

But when I tell them “no” they’ll stop because they are my friends and I trust them. I trust them.

To be honest I’m a bit nervous. I’ve had a few experiences with so-called friends who turned out to be not quite as tolerant about the whole “sorry, but I don’t drink” thing. I guess you could say I’m a tad scared how things will play out…..

But I shouldn’t be. I have to remember, these are my friends. I know them. I trust them. This will turn out ok. :)

P.S.: If there are any non-drinking, non-smoking 18 year old out there feel free to say hi. It’s always nice to know I’m not the only weird person on this planet.

Stick with the “I don’t drink” principle… people will begin to respect you for this, even secretly be thankful for a good example to follow.
You have enough personality to have fun, and don’t need to drink, it only makes one foolish. Just some sober thoughts on the matter. !

You think? That good to hear though  I’ve been getting some weird reactions…..
And I like to think of myself as the perfect companion. I despise alcohol yet adore coffee…ever heard of a more perfect chauffeur?

  2. Well, if it makes you feel any better I’m a 31 year old non-drinker… I know, I know. People think it’s SO weird, but I’ve never liked the taste of alcohol. If I wanted to drink something that tasted like cough syrup or mouth wash, I’d drink cough syrup or mouth wash… So, you’re not alone in the whole, “I don’t drink” thing. We can be weirdos together. :)

      Yaay weirdos united!!!
I totally agree I hate the taste!! Also I tried a little something once and I swear it left a smokey trail down my esophagus and burned a hole in my stomach…..
